Halloween Crafts

If you’re crafty, you get it

I love love LOVE Halloween crafts. Arguably the best kind of crafts you can do. Crafts are great because they really require you to get… crafty. Yes, I said it! I grew up using those ‘gum-balls’ that fall of trees as little ghosts heads and tying a piece of cloth or a paper towel around it to look like a little ghost. You can then use some strings to tie these adorable little ghosts to trees outside or anywhere you can think.

Kids love making these, especially when mom and dad are lending a helping hand. Here are dozens of more Halloween craft ideas by Happiness is Homemade.

Halloween Party with close friends and family

A Masked Ball, Perhaps?

Use your own discretion with this one, I understand times are strange. But if you feel it’s something you want to do, invite a few friends over for a masked ball! You can dress up, play board games, go to an escape room, play some spooky-themed drinking games, watch some scary movies, or do pretty much anything listed here. most of all, be safe!

Picnic with your significant other

Let’s keep it simple and intimate

If you’re like me, sometimes you prefer alone time with that special someone over a big party or event. And what better way to enjoy the beautiful fall weather than a Halloween picnic? Seeing people and children run around in their costumes is sure to bring a smile to your faces.

What to eat? Check out these Halloween recipes so you can pack your picnic basket full of spooky-goodies. Don’t forget the apple cider!

The lab you’re working in is set to self-destruct in 1 hour by the now perished Doctor Jones in a last-ditch effort to destroy some zombies if your plan to formulate the cure fails. That should be plenty of time just work quickly and split up!

Think you have what it takes to escape with the cure? Test your wits at Big Escape Rooms. Check if there is an “Outbreak” location near you.

Take it easy

Why can’t we just stay home?

This seems to be the theme of 2020. So let’s keep it going, shall we?

See a Movie

Classic horror thrill

There is no denying 2020 isn’t exactly the year of great movie releases…. er… or any movie releases. But you can still see a movie in the theaters! Here is an idea of what’s going to be playing at theaters in the Atlanta Area this Halloween season.

  • Joker (October 4)
  • Little Monsters (October 8)
  • The Lighthouse (October 18)
  • Zombieland 2: Double Tap (October 18)
  • Girl on the Third Floor (October 25)

Bad Scary Movie Marathon

Instead of finding the best horror movies, let’s watch the WORST!

PLEASE consider doing this if you haven’t before. With the right group of people, this can be a way more fun Halloween activity than watching regular old scary movies. My boyfriend and I will do this every now and then. I highly recommend stepping into the shoes of a horrified movie critic any day, but this holds especially true regarding horror flicks during Halloween.

Here are some suggestions by Screen Rant:

  1.  Jason X (2001)
  2. Friend Request (2016)
  3. Haunting on Fraternity Row (2018)
  4. Most Likely to Die (2015)
  5. Satanic (2016)
  6. Truth or Dare (2017)
  7. Day of the Dead: Bloodline (2018)
  8. American Poltergeist 2 (2013)

Will they stick around and become a thing in the future? With a hopeful heart, I say this: Doubtful.

host a kickball event

Let’s get active y’all!

Preview(opens in a new tab)

This doesn’t seem like your traditional Halloween activity, but it sure is fun. My friends and I love getting outdoors and setting up a kickball game at our local park. This is something fun you can do for free this year! I DARE you to play in costumes 😉

deep woods camping trip

Scary Stories by the Campfire is always a hit

Fall just scream camping vibes. How’s this for Halloween fun: you and your friends chilling by a campfire, sipping on hot cocoa and making s’mores all while trying to scare the pants off of each other with spooky stories!

Here are some great short stories you can read by the campfire:

Kayaking or canoeing trip

Clearly I’m biased toward staying home and the great outdoors

If this excites you, then do it. You do not need a lot of experience to enjoy this activity. It is actually really easy and affordable to rent a canoe or kayak depending on where you live, too!

Once I kayaked at the Okefenokee swamp in south Georgia. It was really beautiful and a whole lot of fun. And yes, the swamp vibes were totally spooky making this the perfect Halloween activity for 2020. Highly recommended!

Halloween Themed Drinking game with the buds

Trick or Treat yo’ self

Unleash the bad witch inside of you and play some halloween themed drinking games this year. here are some great ones:

  • Good Witch, Bad Witch
  • Boozing For Apples
  • Trick or Drink
  • Costume Bingo
  • Social Media Spooky Shots
  • Beer Pong With Eyeballs

entertain the kids with a spooky scavenger hunt

Great activity for kids and drunk adults alike

If you’re having a party or get together, this can be a really fun way to pass the time. Also, a great idea for school teachers to set up for their class! This is a cost-efficient activity, too. Parents rejoice! You can set this hunt up for less than $20. Scavenger Hunt Fun has hooked us up with a great template. Recreate it verbatim or add your own little spin. Enjoy!

Try something new

Cliche… but inarguably rewarding

Bummed that this Halloween is destined to be a bit different than other years? Don’t worry, there is a silver lining. You may find yourself doing something different this year or breaking traditions. This is actually a good thing. It’s up to us – the people who have seen pandemic 2020, to recreate things a bit. Make new memories, create new traditions, and most of all spread good vibes.

Let’s find some new things to do this Halloween.

Stop a Nefarious Mummy

A couple of jump scares never hurt anyone (except maybe this guy)

Something seems off in the new Queen Tao exhibit… and I can’t quite figure out what it is. All we know if Doctor Jones, the lead archaeologist for the new museum wing, has mysteriously vanished. We have to get this exhibit open in time for the grand reveal. You and your team are an esteemed group of investigators… Can you solve this mystery before time runs out?

They say this site is built near the actual tomb of the fearsome Queen Tao, so be on the lookout for any strange doors… See if the escape game “Pharaoh” is near you!

Visit a Corn Maze or Pumpkin Patch

Classic Halloween fun!

Odds are your local pumpkin patch is open for business! Fill your kids childhood with all the wonderful memories a pumpkin patch corn maze has to offer. You really can’t go wrong with this one. Plus, you’re supporting local farmers!

Take a Virtual Tour

History Buffs prepare yourselves

Did you know you can visit famous historic sites online? You can view tombs of great pharaohs, old cathedrals, and so much more. Here are a few of my favorite virtual tours. I hope you find one you will enjoy!

  •  Red Monastery: take a look around this 4th century AD Coptic Orthodox monastery built by an Egyptian saint
  • Mosque-Madrassa of Sultan Barquq: A mosque, madrassa, mausoleum, and khanqah. The complex was constructed in 1384-1386 CE and is really beautiful to see
  • Tomb of Meresankh III: Meresankh III was the grand-daughter of Kheops (or Khufu) c. 2600-2555 BC
  • Tomb of Ramses VI: My personal favorite virtual tour. Ramesses VI reigned in the mid 12th century BC and his tomb is filled with incredible detail and beauty
